Congratulations to Zohreh on receiving the Best Paper Award at the 12th International Conference on Micro-Nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology and MEMS (MicroNano & ChipsTech 2025) in Chania, Greece. Zohreh also presented research on Bidirectional TaOx Memdiode Devices for Event-driven Computing, highlighting innovative approaches to energy-efficient neuromorphic and event-driven systems.

Aiden Graham showcased his recent research at the NEXT-AI 2026 conference. The poster presentation, titled “Device Variation Effect Simulation for SnOx Memristor-based Neural Networks,” addresses critical challenges in the hardware-AI landscape.

Conferences

At IEEE NANO 2026 in Nanjing, China, Aiden Graham presented his latest research on Device Variability-Aware Synaptic Architectures for Robust Memristor Neural Networks. The poster highlighted innovative approaches to addressing device variability in memristor technologies, contributing to the development of more robust neuromorphic hardware.

Public Engagement

Zohreh showcased her research project at the ECS Showcase 2026, presenting her work to colleagues, students, and visitors through a poster presentation and interactive demonstration. The event was further strengthened by the contributions of the MEMNICS Lab team, who helped organise this successful celebration of ECS research and innovation.

In March June 2023, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Trio Adiono and Dr. Rahmat Mulyawan from the Electrical Engineering department of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), They presented many exciting developments in AI hardware accelerators, showcasing some very impressive and innovative work. Prof Trio is also the head of the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Centre (ICDEC), and we are glad that this visit led to a formal collaboration between ICDEC and UoS SoC-Arm Labs (https://soclabs.org/project/indonesia-collaborative-soc-platform)

Seminars

In June 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr Patrick Ho Wan Chuan from Monash University Malaysia last month for a fascinating seminar on Memristor-FPGA Integrated Platforms.
Dr Ho shared an exciting platform on how memristors can be integrated with FPGA systems for intelligent edge computing and emerging device applications. The talk highlighted a key challenge in this space: bridging the gap between analogue memristor behaviour and digital FPGA control. The seminar sparked excellent discussion around hardware implementation, signal generation, readout circuits, reservoir computing, and AI interfaces for future computing systems. This invited talk was part of Royal Society-funded LUMINA project.

In early June 2026, we were delighted to welcome our industry partners, Dr I Made Wahyu Diyatmika and Dr Nikol Lambeva from VON ARDENNE (Germany). The talk provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest advances in Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technologies and their applications in industrial-scale semiconductor manufacturing. Their insights into state-of-the-art deposition processes, equipment, and industrial challenges sparked engaging discussions and highlighted exciting opportunities for academia–industry collaboration. This invited talk forms part of the activities of the EPSRC-funded SPICA project.
